WHAT YOU WILL NEED

This is list of some basic rock painting supplies that will help you get started. You do not need all these to paint rocks.  All you need is rocks, paint, brushes and sealant.  However, we will share extra resources if you are interested in trying them.  We will cover:

INSPIRATIONAL TAGS FOR YOUR ROCKS



Adding inspirational tags to the back of your rocks is a great way to inspire and encourage the finder.  And you can also share information about your rock group or website on the back of your rocks with tags.

After all the work you put into painting your rocks, you want to make sure they last!  Hopefully this post will give you a few good choices of sealants to choose from.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN ART STONES

If you can not find rocks in your area, you can make your own Art Stones at home.  It's easy and inexpensive to do.  You just need

DIFFERENT MORTAR MIXES


(PHOTO: The stone on the left was made with Rapid Set Mortar. It is almost white, smooth, and no holes or cracks. The stone on the right was made with regular mortar. It has a rough surface, a crack on the top, and many little air holes across the top.)

MOLDS FOR MAKING ART STONES


Silicone molds are BEST for making art stones. They are non-stick so they do not need to be coated with a releasing agent.  Just wash them out when you are done making stones and that's it.  Simple and easy.

How To Decoupage Rocks

Decoupage is the art of decorating something with paper. In this post we will cover how to decoupage napkins or a print out onto a stone. The traditional way involves Mod Podge. But if you want to use paint pens or add paint accents over your napkins/print out then you will use Matte Medium to attach the paper/napkin to the stone instead of Mod Podge.
